The Only Women in Art History Who Matter According to Richard Serra, as written by Richard Serra on Gagosian Gallery letterhead, 2006
Ink on paper
Diptych, each 38 x 31 cm framed

This artwork arose from a (friendly) argument I had with Richard Serra regarding the merits of a certain artist's work while I was working at Gagosian Gallery and he was preparing for an exhibition.

While debating, Richard grabbed a sharpie and some nearby letterhead and wrote this list. “Here,” he said. “These are the only women in art history who matter.” I kept the list Richard wrote (in which he misspelled quite a few names), framed it and created an accompanying commemorative plaque.
